Dillon County Landfill Guide: Hours, 13 Drop-Off Sites & Prohibited Items

What Dillon County residents and contractors need to know — the landfill only buries C&D debris and yard waste (general trash goes to Lee County), 11 convenience centers on a Monday/Wednesday/Friday schedule, and where to take electronics, tires, and motor oil.

Dillon County's waste system works differently than most neighboring counties. General household trash is not buried locally — it's hauled to Lee County for disposal. The Dillon County Landfill at 901 Landfill Road only accepts construction and demolition debris and yard waste. Everything else runs through the county's 13-site convenience center network. Here's where to take what.

✅ Pro Tip: The convenience centers are only open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. If you need to drop off on a Tuesday, Thursday, or weekend, the only options are the Recycling Center at 608 South 1st Avenue (weekdays only, closes 4 PM) or the Landfill at 901 Landfill Road (weekdays only, closes 5 PM). Plan around the schedule or you're making a wasted trip.

City of Dillon Curbside Collection

City of Dillon residents have curbside collection for household garbage and recyclables (aluminum cans, plastic bottles, cardboard, newspapers). Contact Dillon City Public Works at (843) 774-0040 for pickup schedules and rules. The city does not pick up large appliances or electronics curbside — take those to the Recycling Center or Landfill.

Environmental Compliance for Dillon County Contractors

Contractors working in Dillon County should know that only C&D debris and yard waste are buried at the local landfill. General construction waste mixed with household materials will need to go through the transfer station system, which hauls to Lee County.

Key Rules for Contractors

  • Keep a waste manifest for commercial C&D loads
  • Never mix hazardous materials (paint, solvents, chemicals) with general debris
  • All loads must be covered during transport under SC law — violations carry fines
  • The landfill is closed weekends — plan haul schedules accordingly
  • Use a licensed roll-off provider for job site waste to ensure compliant disposal without managing the transfer-to-Lee-County logistics yourself

When a Dumpster Makes More Sense Than a Landfill Trip

For a single load of yard debris or a few bags of household waste, the convenience centers and landfill work fine. But Dillon County's system adds a layer of complexity that most counties don't have — general trash doesn't stay local, the convenience centers run three days a week, and different sites accept different materials.

For renovation projects, full cleanouts, roofing tear-offs, or any job producing more than a truck bed of debris, a roll-off dumpster takes all of that off your plate. Your provider handles transport, disposal routing, and compliance — no figuring out which site takes what, no scheduling around Monday/Wednesday/Friday windows.
