Marion County Landfill Guide: Hours, Recycling Centers & Prohibited Items

Everything residents and contractors in Marion, Mullins, and the surrounding area need to know — landfill hours (including the lunch closure most people miss), 3 staffed recycling centers, e-waste drop-off, and motor oil collection sites across the county.

Marion County's landfill operates on a slightly different schedule than neighboring counties — and it closes for lunch. If you show up at noon without knowing that, you're sitting in a parking lot for an hour. Here's the full breakdown of what goes where, what's accepted, and when the gates are actually open.

City of Marion Yard Debris Rules

City of Marion residents with curbside pickup should know: yard debris must be cut to no more than 6 inches in diameter and 6 feet in length, placed at the front corner of your property near the street. If a commercial tree service or landscape contractor does the work, the contractor is responsible for hauling it away — the city will not pick up contractor debris. Contact City of Marion Public Works at (843) 423-5961 for questions.

Environmental Compliance for Marion County Contractors

Contractors working in Marion County must dispose of C&D waste at licensed facilities. The county landfill at Redbluff Court is a licensed facility — appropriate for clean concrete, wood, drywall, roofing, and general construction debris from permitted projects.

Key Rules for Contractors

  • Keep a waste manifest for commercial C&D loads
  • Never mix hazardous materials (paint, solvents, chemicals) with general debris
  • All loads must be covered during transport under SC law — violations carry fines
  • Note the lunch closure (11:30 AM – 12:30 PM) — plan haul times around it or you'll wait
  • Use a licensed roll-off provider for job site waste to ensure compliant disposal without multiple landfill trips

When a Dumpster Makes More Sense Than a Landfill Trip

For a few bags of yard waste or a single piece of furniture, the landfill or a recycling center makes sense. But for renovation projects, full cleanouts, roofing tear-offs, or any job producing more than a truck bed of debris, a roll-off dumpster saves time and hassle. Your provider handles transport, disposal, and compliance — no landfill queues, no load-securing trips, no timing your arrival around the lunch break.

For contractors running jobs across Marion County and the surrounding Pee Dee area, roll-off rentals eliminate the need to track individual disposal runs and ensure every load reaches a licensed facility.

Skip the Landfill Trip

For cleanouts, renovations, and construction jobs across Marion and Mullins — rent a dumpster and let a licensed local provider handle compliant disposal. Serving all of Marion County and the Pee Dee region.
